A weekend away...

14 July 2010
We rarely are able to just get away, you know the weekends with no plans, do what you want, when you want, how you want.  Like I said we rarely have those kinda mini holidays.  We slipped away for a weekend in beautiful Whistler.  It was wonderful to join the many tourists of Whistler after the big 2010 winter olympics.  The vibe you get from this place is very relaxed, but on the go you don't see many cars driving around mostly bikes, buses, and skate boards.  You see a lot of skis and snowboards, and many down hill bikes.  When you walk the village you see dogs, strollers, Star-bucks.  It is the kinda place where you hear music around the bend and then happen to run into a full percussion band, that your 100% sure all they eat is granola and sit in trees to protest the forests being cut down.    You see many children young and old wearing their helmets riding down hill bikes covered in dirt.  You feel alive, free, happy to be in the sun.  You want to get up and dance along with the granola people.  You feel so full of energy and love.  You pass people you have never met before and smile say hello, maybe even strike up a conversation.  It was a great little holiday.

We enjoyed our sunshine filled weekend with sunscreen, hats, sippy cups filled with cold water.  We enjoyed our swimming sessions, our hikes, our nightly games with great friends, our dinners, lunches and breakfasts.  We put away all the routines and schedules to  make way for spontaneous fun and laughter.  The girls enjoyed their friend little Tay, the walks in their new stroller, the colorful balloon hat, the early mornings, the skipped nap, falling asleep pool side in the jolly jumper.  They had so much fun and were able to experience a different way of life.

We had so much fun, but I was happy to be home, happy to sleep in my own bed, with my pillows and air conditioning.  I missed the dogs, and phone calls to my mom.  We were so tired and exhausted.  All the waking up early, hiking, sun and swimming can really tire a person out.  We all slept great our first and second night at home.  Happy to be in all our own beds.

This weekend has made me thankful for good friends, family, the sunshine, and mini holidays!
