In between mixing berries, tending to crying, hungry babies, I write this post. A busy little life I live. And I love it. The summer has been a slow start, but not when it comes to berry season. One main reason I love where we live so much is all the beautiful fruit that grows here. We have strawberries in June, raspberries in July, blueberries in August, apples in September, corn all summer and fall, we can grow cherries, peaches, blackberries, the list is endless.
Again this summer I am making Jam, freezer jam, and cooked jam. It is a very long process right from picking up the berries, cleaning them, boiling jars and lids, measuring all the ingredients (which isn't many) then realizing you don't have enough of one so you have to run out to get more. Then mixing, bowls everywhere, and a mess is strewn all over the kitchen, ya baby that's how I cook. I am ecstatic to say I made 20 jars of raspberry jam. 11 -250ml and 8 - 500ml.
Yesterday was a pie day! I made pie. Yes, from scratch. I watched my mother in law when she was down last time, she happens to be one of the best pie makers, not because of taste but this woman can pound out 15 pies in an afternoon, all different kinds. And she makes it look so easy. So I decided to give it a go, plus it was on my list of things I must do this summer. Now right from the get go I knew it was not going to be an easy task. Easy is far from what it was. I made three pies, strawberry - rhubarb x2, and one blueberry - raspberry. We dived into the strawberry one and I have to say it was delish!! Esthetically not the best, but when it tastes as good as it did who the heck cares, right?
Nevaeh is trying so hard to be welcomed into the big girl club, not for being potty trained, but for eating with a fork. She is doing wonderfully well, and her daddy and I are super proud, while eating dinner we cheer her on and help her out when she lets us. You can see the pride in her eyes when she aims her fork right and the food stays on and she lands a mouth full! "Yea Nevaeh" we all cheer.
Two of the best helpers...
